Your funds help provide 550 young women and men acquire vocational qualifications and entrepreneurial knowledge.
Through this project, young Nepalese gain the necessary qualifications to obtain reputed jobs and improve their future prospects. The project measures include vocational and entrepreneurial training, training on labor law and gender equality, and childcare during the training. For participants with low literacy or numeracy skills, we offer reading, writing and math courses. 275 young men and women also take part in English and computer courses.
Sushmita's Story
Sushmita grew up in a small village in Sindhuli. As part of a Plan project, she was able to train as a receptionist, taking courses in English and general skills. Following her training, Sushmita completed a professional internship and found employment as a receptionist at a security company. Sushmita now regularly sends money home to support her younger brother, whose education costs she has covered so that he too can continue his schooling.

Why Nepal?
Nepal is a predominantly agricultural country, as are the two project regions of Dhanusha and Sindhuli. There are small businesses and handicraft enterprises, while manufacturing and service industries remain in the early stages of development. Women in particular are affected by unemployment in Nepal. Entrenched societal roles deny many women access to vocational training. One third of girls marry before their 18th birthday, 7% marry before they are 15.
A lack of vocational qualifications is the major obstacle to finding a job. Around 4% of children in Nepal drop out of school without even completing elementary school. For them, there is a high risk of never returning to the education system.
The Project

With this project, we want to give young women and men equal access to vocational training and decent work - and thus improve their future prospects. The project measures include vocational and entrepreneurial training, training on labor law and gender equality, and childcare during the training.
550 young women and men aged 18 to 24 take part in training courses in which they acquire vocational qualifications and entrepreneurial knowledge. For participants with low literacy or numeracy skills, we offer reading, writing and math courses. 275 young men and women also take part in English and computer courses.
When selecting participants, we focus in particular on disadvantaged population groups who, for example, belong to a particular caste or ethnic minority and are affected by poverty. Young women and men who have children or adults with disabilities living in their households are also given preference.
